Will Drano Work?

It might clear a clog temporarily but that doesn’t necessarily mean the plumbing problem is fixed.

But before you pour it down your drain, it’s important to understand what these products can do to your plumbing, and what happens when a professional plumber needs to work on the system afterward.

Many chemical drain cleaners contain sodium hydroxide, a highly caustic chemical designed to break down certain types of organic material. While it may help with some clogs, chemical drain cleaners can be harsh on plumbing components and create a safety concern for anyone who later has to open, disconnect, or repair the drain.

And yes, this includes toilets. Chemical drain cleaners are generally not a good solution for a clogged toilet.

We can certainly listen to what you’re experiencing and give you an idea of what may be involved. However, we don’t know exactly what we’re dealing with until a licensed plumber can see the plumbing problem in person.

Once our plumber arrives and assesses the situation, we can explain what we found, discuss your available options, and provide a starting price before work begins.

Why can’t you just give me a price over the phone?

Every plumbing situation is different. A clogged drain, leaking pipe, water heater problem, or sewer issue may have several possible causes. What sounds like a simple repair over the phone can sometimes turn out to be a larger plumbing problem once it is properly inspected.

Our goal is not to guess at a price. It’s to identify the actual problem first so you can make an informed decision about the repair.

Is there a trip or service fee?

A $75+ trip fee may apply to commercial service calls and certain estimate requests. Not every plumbing call requires this type of fee, so we recommend contacting our office before scheduling if you are specifically requesting an estimate.
